Who is Sandi Delman?

In 1999 my love of quilting was born. I have always loved working with scraps. I love both traditional and paper pieced techniques and fumble through applique projects. I feel comfortable with any cotton cloth and always on the hunt for a good challenge. I am right now slowly heading down the road of creating miniatures. Wool on the other hand still has me a bit intimidated, but slowly I’ll build up confidence with this medium too.

Many of you might know me as kwiltnkats and wondered how this and my “K” naming of quilts came about. My sister unbeknownst to her probably started all of it. When my mom was to have her fourth and last child, having two brothers already, I wanted so badly to have a sister. That wish came true nine years and two days after my birth. Karen is her name and since then I’ve surrounded myself with “Ks”. For years there have been friends and coworkers, pets, email addresses, blog and website names, and hundreds of quilts with the start of their names a “K”. I find a word that either starts with a “K” or when converted for a “C” or “Q” can be pronounced as a “K”. This can be quite the challenge that “www” helps me out with many a time! Oh, by the way my dad came up with kwiltnkats inspired by my love of both.

My gallery will show you my adventure =^.^=

Kosmo & Kassy Abyssinian cats

Behind every great quilter, there's usually a furry supervisor (or two!), and here at kwiltnkats, our creative flow is purr-fectly orchestrated by my two magnificent Abyssinian "team members": Kosmo and Katastrophy (aka Kassy). These aren't just any housecats; they're bona fide CFA Champions, with titles to prove their regal lineage. Their names, Kosmo and Kassy, were practically pre-ordained by their breed's famously high-energy antics! They're our second dynamic duo of Abyssinians, following in the paw prints of our beloved Kaos and Komotion (Koko), who now chase laser pointers over the rainbow bridge. All of our feline inspirations have sported that striking, classic ruddy coat, and best of all, their unique "hair-not-fur" means they're wonderfully non-allergenic – a huge bonus for a quilter surrounded by fibers! Kosmo and Kassy celebrated their eighth birthdays in June, and they're still as vibrant as ever.

Kosmo, our resident "Head of Lap Warmth & Vocal Communications," is quite the charmer. Offer him a lap, and he'll gladly settle in, providing instant coziness and a running commentary on the day's events. He's by far the biggest of our Abyssinian crew, and no, I'm not overfeeding him – he's just a generously sized lovebug! What truly makes us chuckle about Kosmo is his penchant for suddenly sprawling out on his side in the most unexpected places, often mid-stride. His secret vice? Plastic springs! He's a pro at retrieving them, once even managing an impressive volley of 11 tosses. Just don't try to share his stuffed toys, especially his prized yellow bird, the squirrel, the skunk, or that coveted green worm – those are strictly for solo play.

Then there's Kassy, our feisty "Chief Zoomies Officer" and the smallest, quickest whirligig of the bunch. Her signature move? A gravity-defying pirouette off the wall near the light switch – a true spectacle! You can practically see the static electricity build as she preps for a full-blown spaz-out or a burst of zoomies. Anything on a stick immediately captures her attention, but her ultimate weakness is the laser pointer. She possesses a supernatural ability to hear it being picked up, even before the beam appears. Just the sound of it sends her into full "ninja cat" mode! Together, this duo ensures there's never a dull moment in the kwiltnkats studio, providing endless entertainment and, of course, plenty of soft landings for my finished quilts.
